Guild Membership Application Submission


RULES GOVERNING SUBMISSIONS OF WORK IN APPLICATIONS FOR ASC GUILD MEMBERSHIP
  1. The official Application Form must be filled in completely and accurately, and sent to the Guild Secretary with the application fee of $25.00, payable by Money Order only and made payable to ASC Inc, in order to preserve the anonymity of applicants.

  2. All submitted works must be received by the Guild Secretary on the date, place and time advised by the Guild Secretary.

  3. Works sent by carrier should be safely packaged and insured at the applicant's discretion. Although good care and attention is given to the submitted work, neither the ASC nor the ASC Guild can accept responsibility for loss or damage.

  4. The Guild Secretary will be the only person to know the identity of any applicant and will retain that secrecy throughout the selection process.

  5. At the conclusion of the selection process, submitted work will be returned in the manner agreed and the advice of the result will be sent to the applicant within six (6) weeks of the selection committee meeting.

  6. Unless a minimum of two (2) major works are of acceptable standard initially, the application will be unsuccessful. Applicants will receive advice concerning those points that were not acceptable to the Selection Committee.

  7. Any re-submitted works, which will be restricted to one occasion only, must be received within six (6) months of the date of the meeting of the Selection Committee and must be accompanied by a resubmission fee of $10.00

  8. Any unsuccessful resubmission will fail the original application. Any future re-application will require the submission of all new works.

REQUIREMENTS OF MAJOR WORKS TO BE SUBMITTED FOR CONSIDERATION FOR ASC GUILD MEMBERSHIP

  1. FOUR MAJOR PIECES OF CALLIGRAPHIC WORK must be submitted to the selection committee, using different hands. (The use of vellum as a support and the use of flat or raised & burnished gilding is NOT required, but may be considered, along with other applications/elements.)

  2. One of the major pieces must solely be in Italic and be a minimum of sixty (60) words, using one or two colours only, without illustration, gilding or decoration. This piece only is NOT required to be framed, and may be surrounded by a matt board for presentation.

  3. MAJOR, in this instance, is a piece of work of excellence, well framed and appropriately presented to exhibition standard. Other forms of presentation, such as scrolls, self-made books, ceramics etc may also be considered.

  4. The Selection Committee will be looking for a range of skills, with traditional and modern approaches, showing sensitivity and expertise in the use of design, layout, colour and letter quality.

  5. An ESSAY must also be submitted on the history and evolution of European letterforms and calligraphy. The essay will be approximately 1200-1500 words long, with self-illustrated letterform examples and typewritten text. This may also be presented as a multi-media presentation of your choice.

    Recognised Prior Learning for the essay may be sought by those with a Diploma in Western Calligraphy (VETAB Accredited) or equivalent recognised qualification, by presenting a copy of the original qualification, or by submitting evidence of completion of a comparable essay.

  7. Good presentation and an awareness of excellence will enhance all work.

  8. The work submitted for consideration should be no more than two years old.
