| About Us |
| Founded
in 1980, the Australian Society of Calligraphers is an active group of lettering
artists of all skills, from enthusiastic beginners to professionals and
even some who simply appreciate
lettering and book arts.
Based in Sydney, but with members from all over Australia and overseas, the Society is a nonprofit, incorporated association that promotes and encourages calligraphy and related crafts. Membership is open to anyone regardless of their calligraphic ability. Calligraphy is an enjoyable and creative hobby which can be learned by anyone. ASC Guild membership can be attained by peer selection through excellence in the design and craft of calligraphy. Our highly respected
magazine "Colophon"
is published quarterly and contains articles of special interest to calligraphers
as well as news of events and details of future workshops. The Society offers a range of monthly 1 or 2 day weekend Workshops on specialist topics for all skill levels. Our teachers include well recognised calligraphers and we often host interstate and international calligraphers. |
The Society's Library has an extensive range of books and periodicals on traditional and contemporary calligraphy. The library can be used by members on workshop days and also by mail order. The Society promotes calligraphy through Exhibitions along with practical demonstrations at various shows. The Committee of the Society, is elected at the annual general meeting held in September each year. The Committee usually meets monthly and is responsible for managing the affairs of the Society. The ASC is located
at Primrose Park Art &
Craft Centre, at the end of Matora Lane, off Young Street, Cremorne,
where most of our workshops are held.
